Cat Corcilius
Cathy Corcilius, nicknamed "Cat," was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida,
and lived with her parents on the Bahamas Islands until she was school
age. Cat's family then moved to California, where she currently resides.
While still a youngster, Cat and her parents traveled extensively
throughout the Southwest, adventures which sparked the budding artist's
curiosity about Native Americans. Cat began drawing everything she saw,
and became especially intrigued with the Indian stories and legends
surrounding the women. Her view of the American Indian woman is, by
her choice, romanticized. She sees the American Indian woman much the
same as she sees all women--proud on their heritage, honoring tradition,
strong, passionate, and caretakers of future generations. Cat received
much of her art education at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.
Marriage and family taking precedence, Cat's lifelong dream of painting
professionaly became true in 1988. The artist's paintings are part of
many private and corporate collections nationwide, and her original
paintings can be seen in galleries in California, Washington, and Arizona.
Cat's limited edition prints are also represented by galleries throughout
the United States.
