Larry K. Martin
A native of Alabama, wildlife artist Larry K. Martin chose a career in fine
art after a successful career in science and reserach in the field of
tropical medicine, which involved travels to exotic areas and live-in
experiences with stone-age tribes. In 1976 Martin began the transition
toward a career in wildlife art when he returned to Alabama and
accepted a position of Curator at the Anniston Museum of Natural
History. At that time he was able to devote all of his time to painting,
sculpting and drawing. Whereas many artists tend to specialize in one
technique or medium with time, Martin has become more diversified by
using painting, drawing, three-dimensional works and low-reliefs to
depict both wildlife and human subjects. Although Martin is continually
experimenting with new techniques and design concepts, each new
work carries a clear statement of his style. martin's art has been featured
in exhibits at the National Wildlife Federation and the Audubon Naturalists
Society in Washington, D.C., and is included in major corporate
collections and offices of both the U.S. Senate and House of
Representatives as well as the White House collection. His paiting "Time
to Soar" was selected in 1989 as a print subject by the Commission on
the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution. Martin, whose work
has been featured in many periodicals and books, received the
Meritorious Service Award of the National Audubon Society for
cooperative efforts with the Birmingham, Alabama, Audubon Society.
