David Christopher Miller
Hailing from an artistically talented family, David C. Miller grew
up in Iowa and California, where he spent much of his free time
helping out his dad, who was a professional sign painter and neon
specialist. David was also influenced and encouraged by his mother,
who was an accomplished craftswoman. He went on to earn a degree
in drafting, which helped him to develop his initial spacial
and dimensional concepts. The art David currently produces is
heavily influenced by the indelible impressions made by the many
hours spent scuba diving in California, Mexico, Hawaii and Jamaica.
He became completely captivated by the beauty of the island and
mainland coasts and was moved by the magnificence of their
companion waters. David knew he had found the subject he wanted
to paint. And while his early work in traditional oil on canvas
was satisfactory for some uses, it failed to produce the brilliance
necessary to more precisely interpret his subjects. He began to
experiment and soon developed a special process for priming the
surface of lexan panels, which allows the adhesion of acrylic paint.
This method of painting on lexan aids in the creation of a profound
and luminous form, fully dramatizing David's ability to conceptualize
a subject in three dimensions. The result is a distinctive portrayal
of the life zone both above and beneath the sea that gives viewers of
a unique presentation of depth and perspective. David's work is part
of numerous private collections and is displayed in galleries
throughout the United States and Japan.
