Schim Schimmel
William Schimmel Jr., or Schim, as he likes to be called, says about his
work, "Although I am reluctant to categorize my work, it can probably
best be descried as 'environmental visionary surrealism.' 'Where do
you get your ideas from?' is the question I am asked most often about
my work. Ideas for me come from many sources, but always originate
as a reflection of my spiritual outlook and concern for the planet. The
central theme permeating my work as a whole is the concept of
planetary inter-dependency. I believe in an inherent unity and oneness
pervading all manifested creation. Our planet, as we've known it, is
rapidly disappearing. If we are to save ourselves and this magnificent
home we are so utterly dependent upon, we need to become a global
society, awake and aware, and willing to work together in a new
atmosphere of love, responsibility, and higher consciousness. To this
end, I express my spiritual creativity through my artwork." Schim was
born August 10, 1954 in Tucson, Arizona. He studied and subsequently
taught with his father William B. Schimmel, the nationally known water-
colorist and art instructor. For over eleven years Schim taught oil,
watercolor, and acrylic landscape painting to thousands of students
throughout the Midwest and Arizona. Schim lives in Arizona, where
he now devotes full time to painting.
